Revel in the music of poetry at the First Congregational Church of Manchester on Tuesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. This lecture and demonstration by pianist Michael Arnowitt will explore the musical aspects of poetry, lyrics and literature, and offer a musician’s insights on the elements of sound and time in literary composition and the similarities between great literature and the music of classical composers and pop songwriters. Arrive early to enjoy a half hour jazz performance by Arnowitt from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Arnowitt is a classical and jazz pianist and recording artist who has performed with orchestras throughout the U.S. and Europe. His life and music is the subject of an award-winning documentary, ‘Beyond Eighty-Eight Keys,’ by filmmaker Susan Bettmann. He dazzled a standing-room-only crowd last year at the FCC, when he presented “An Evening of George Gershwin.” The free public presentation is a Vermont Humanities Council event hosted by Mark Skinner Library.
