There’s More Than Just Hot Air at the Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival

The annual Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival offers a myriad of community events in Cambridge, N.Y.

The 18th annual Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival will be held Friday to Sunday, June 1 to 3, in and around the historic village of Cambridge, N.Y. The schedule of activities will include launches of hot air balloons on Friday and Saturday evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings at Cambridge Central School, located at  24 South Park Street. Evening launches will take place around 7 p.m., and morning launches at around 5:30 a.m., weather and wind conditions permitting. Between the launches, there will be a wide variety of activities going on throughout the Cambridge community. Friday night will feature some new events, including a Block Party with live music and food vendors on the town’s Main Street, and a fireworks show at Mansion Park on South Union Street. There’s also a Pilots’ Welcome Barbecue in Railroad Park to take out or eat in.

Community events will be held throughout the day on Saturday, beginning with a free Breakfast Buffet at Saint Luke’s Church. Tours of the historic church will follow. The Cambridge Lions’ Club is hosting a Car Show at Railroad Park and live entertainment on Broad Street.  Saint Patrick’s Church is holding a Strawberry Festival, and crafters and vendors will be selling their wares on the lawn at the Cambridge Presbyterian Church. ‘ A Taste of Cambridge,’ sponsored by the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, will showcase local food producers and restaurants from 5 to 9 p.m. This is followed by the annual Moon Glow, a spectacular nighttime display of tethered hot air balloons lit from inside and timed to correspond to a selection of music.

Sunday’s Pilots’ Breakfast  brings an end to the official festival activities at the Cambridge American Legion located on Route 22, and offers a chance to meet hot air balloon pilots and discuss the details of ballooning with the experts. In addition, there’s a Breakfast Buffet at the American Legion on Route 22, and the Cambridge Village Farmers Market in Railroad Park.
