On Saturday evening join Northshire Bookstore at 7 p.m. that evening when the present author Adriana Brown in conversation with John Hyde, Professor Emeritus of History at Williams College about her new book, ‘An Unlikely Hero,’ the gripping and inspiring story of the courage and indefatigable resolve possessed by Adrianus Millenaar, a diplomat who stayed at the Dutch Embassy in Berlin after Hitler’s Nazi Germany invaded and occupied the Netherlands during World War II. Millenaar’s daughter Adriana, then a young child, remained with her parents throughout the war. Her book combines careful and detailed scholarship with eyewitness accounts, and relates how her father worked to improve and spare the lives of many of the thousands of Dutch citizens who were captured and sent to prisons and concentration camps and forced labor battalions or conscription into the German military.
