Tickets on Sale Now for MMF’s 42nd Concert Season
Tickets are now on sale for the Manchester Music Festival’s 42nd concert season, which opens on Thursday, July 7, at the Southern Vermont Arts Center’s Arkell Pavilion. “We are offering music from Brahms to Duke Ellington, as well as two world premieres, vocalists, choral singing and a full symphony orchestra performance,“ said Ariel Rudiakov, the Festival’s artistic director. “The theme for this year’s concert series is ‘Synergies.’ “What is chamber music if not a synergy – the combined efforts of musicians performing a broad selection of compositions individually and with each other,.
The July 7 concert is titled ‘If It Sounds Good,’ taken from Duke Ellington’s famous quotation, “If it sounds good, it is good.” That concert will be followed by ‘Flirting with Fusion’ on July 14, devoted to the vision and entrepreneurship of the Female Business Owners of Manchester. Next is ‘Red, White, Yellow and Blue’ on July 21, a tribute to the bright musical colors of the great composers of Russia and Armenia. ‘Handel to Modern’ will be performed on July 28,featuring Mozart, Handel and the world premiere of an original composition by Steven Dankner. The August 4 concert, ‘Around the World with Music,’ spans three centuries of music and features a second world premiere. The closing concert on August 11 will showcase the Rising Stars of the Metropolitan Opera.
The star-studded cast of musicians and vocalists includes winners of prestigious awards, including the Van Cliburn Competition, Juilliard’s Gina Bachauer Award, a Gilmore Young Artist Award, a National Endowment for the Arts Award, and the Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions.
In addition to the Thursday night concerts music lovers will be treated to the Monday night chamber music concerts performed by the ever-popular members of the Festival’s full-scholarship Young Artists program. Opening night for these upcoming stars of the classical music world is at 7 p.m. on July 11 at the Riley Center of the Arts at Burr and Burton Academy.
