Two Venues to Host ‘Our Town’
Theater in the Woods will present a re-imagined production of Thornton Wilder’s ‘Our Town,’ at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, at the Old Tinmouth Firehouse – and again at Stone Valley Arts in Poultney on Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 14, at 3 p.m.
A staple of American theater ever since it premiered 81 years ago, ‘Our Town’ is just as illuminating today as it was in 1938. “Why this play again? Why this play now? Because it is so richly loaded with the human experience,” says director Meg Bouchard. “I want to explore it using a real community. We have husbands and wives and sons and daughters, and tension and history and laughter.”
Bouchard’s production is intimate and connective. “The world is so overwhelming that … we slowly separate from life and miss the vitality of the day-to-day maintenance. Community is about tied shoelaces, the importance of just showing up for one another. We’re walking around with these broken hearts about what’s happening in the world and it is just the moment our hearts are open to reconnect. “
The cast includes Rutland County residents Rainbow, Wheaton and Marshall Squier, Bruce Bouchard, Kate Kelly Bouchard, Melissa and Robin Chesnut-Tangerman, Garrett Robin, Julia Newirth Redington, Beth Wolven, Chris Larson, Sam Filloramo and Emma and Molly Luikart. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children. Proceeds will support Theater
in the Woods Camp. Visit
