Veterans Seek Home for Sculpture
Chapter 1 Vietnam Veterans of America in Rutland is seeking a home for a marble bust of a soldier, begun by John Reno, a Vietnam veteran, but completed by Don Ramey of West Rutland following Reno’s untimely death. The completed sculpture, weighing several thousand pounds, formed the centerpiece of Rutland’s Vietnam Memorial from 2000 to 2017, when it was replaced due to signs of deterioration. Because of its sentimental and historical value, Chapter 1 preserved a 220-pound portion of the original sculpture that includes the head and shoulders. They are now seeking a home for this remnant. The sculpture is white marble with some grayish streaks of color, and is 31 inches wide by 19 inches tall. A group or municipality interested in acquiring the sculpture to display as a tribute to those who served during the Vietnam War can contact Andy Megrath at 802-775-1745 or [email protected] before March 13.
