‘Walk This Way’ at MCL
Costume and textile historian Edward Maeder will present ‘Walk This Way: Footwear from the Stuart Weitzman Collection of Historic Shoes,’ at Manchester Community Library (MCL) on Wednesday, June 5, at 7 p.m. In this illustrated talk launching MCL’s Summer Wednesdays Series, Maeder will explore the evolution of women’s footwear in parallel with changes in women’s live and share historic examples from the American shoe designer’s personal collection. Famous for his trademark use of unique materials and the creation of one-of-a-kind shoes for Oscar nominees, this collection was amassed over three decades. Maeder is the founding director of the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto. He has held curatorial positions at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He curated shoe Weitzman’s collection of historic footwear for an exhibit by the New-York Historical Society (N-YHS) last year, and wrote a companion book published by the N-YHS. Northshire Bookstore will be on-site to sell copies of the book. This illustrated talk is free and open to the public, and co-sponsored by MCL and the Bookstore.
