West African Dance Troupe to Perform in Bennington
The West African group Saakumu Dance Troupe will perform at the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse on Friday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. This team of performers is dedicated to introducing audiences to traditional and contemporary African music and dance. The word ‘saakumu’ means ‘traditions.’ The company bases their aesthetic on traditional styles combined with contemporary forms, creating a repertoire uniquely their own. They are an artist-founded association driven by a passion for bringing innovative dances and world music to their audiences. In addition to collaborating with artists and presenters of all kinds, they are committed to building new audiences via performances. Admission to the event is $10 for individuals; $5 for children over five; $25 maximum per family. The Fellowship is at 108 School Street in Bennington. Visit uubennington.org to find out more.
