You Can Still Register for the ‘Running of the Turkeys’
Runners, walkers, and kids of all ages are invited to participate in the 21st annual ‘Running of the Turkeys’ coming up on Thanksgiving morning in Arlington. The event includes a 5K (3.1 miles) run and walk as well as a Kids’ Fun Run, hosted by the Batten Kill Valley Runners Club starting and finishing at Fisher Elementary School on East Arlington Road. Entry forms are available at bkvr.net. Your last chances to register and pick up your race packet are on Wednesday evening, November 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fisher Elementary, the race site, and again on Thanksgiving morning from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. The race will start promptly at 9 a.m. There will be also two raffles. The first, for a BKVR sweatshirt or hat, is limited to runners who bring a plate of fresh home-baked cookies to share. The second will be open to all ticket holders for prizes donated by Brooks Brothers, Christmas Days, Eastern Mountain Sports, Hawkins House, Long Ago and Far Away, Orvis, RK Miles, the Mountain Goat, and the Vermont Country Store. You can get a raffle ticket by donating baked goods or sneakers, winter footwear and winter jackets for distribution to needy people. You could also contribute a bike in any size and condition for rehab. Make a note now to get into your kitchen just before the race or the back of your closet or garage and bring a donation!
