Youth Hockey Teams Advance to Finals in VT State Tournament
Three teams from Northshire Hockey Association (NHA) found great success in the Vermont State Tournament this past weekend. Two of the teams will be advancing to the Finals. The NHA Bantam team (13 and 14 year olds) was one of six teams competing in the B division. They were successful in the first weekend earning a spot in the final four. They beat Woodstock in semi-final game and will be competing for the State Championship title on Sunday, March 6, at Union Arena in Woodstock at 2 p.m.
The NHA Peewee team (11 and 12 year olds) was one of nine teams competing in the A division. They hosted a very successful first weekend at Riley Rink, bringing in players from all over the state, and were one of the top six teams to advance to the second round. They ranked fifth at the start of the second weekend and won their way into the semi-final game, ultimately earning a final ranking as the number three team in the state.
The NHA Squirt team (9 and 10 year olds) was one of 12 teams competing in the A division. They won all three games in the first weekend of tournament play and secured a spot as one of the top six teams to move onto weekend two. They entered the second weekend ranked first, and won two out of three games in that round. The Squirts then went onto the final four and played in the semi-final round as number two. They beat Missisquoi to advance to the State Championship game on Saturday, March 5, at Union Arena in Woodstock at 8 a.m.
