A Day in the Dirt at Smokey House Center
Join Smokey House Center for a Day in the Dirt on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All are encouraged to drop in any time or stay for the entire day – including families! No registration is necessary, and the event will take place rain or shine. Activities will focus on the Education Garden, where attendees will prepare raised garden beds for future planting: place wood chips in the aisles, add compost to the soil, plant seeds in the greenhouse, mulch garden beds and divide perennials. Lots of growing and learning will take place in the Education Garden by students from local elementary schools and the campers at Danby Mountain Day Camp.
Tools and instruction will be provided. Some garden gloves will be available to share, but feel free to bring your own. There will be a cooler with water available for when you get thirsty.
A community seed box will be filled with seeds that you can take for your home garden. You can also bring seeds to swap or share. A table will be set up with envelopes and markers to allow folks to take just what they may need instead of full packets.
Parking will be in the lot closer to the two white buildings at 426 Danby Mountain Road in Danby. Signs will direct you from there.
