A Free Day of Creative Fun at MASS MoCA
On Saturday, January 11, enjoy free admission and wall-to-wall programming throughout MASS MoCA, with art-making, dance performances, roaming musicians and gallery tours. Art activities relating to the exhibitions on view include printmaking demonstrations, take-home book alterations and a Jason Middlebrook-inspired collaborative wood sculpture. Kids and adults race to finish a Sol Lewitt treasure hunt and rediscover Kidspace with a trip through a maze that will take over the gallery for the day, featuring options for youngsters to express themselves: floors lined with paper, instruments to play and walls covered in bubble wrap. Gallery hours are extended until 7 p.m. The MASS MoCA Store will feature book-signings and a hot sauce-tasting. Local and regional groups, including Berkshire Dance Theatre and Frog Lotus Yoga, will offer instruction and performances. Buses will provide transportation from local community centers between North Adams and Pittsfield at no charge to riders. Patrons can contact MASS MoCA’s Education Department at 413-664-4481 ext. 8150 for pick-up times and locations, which will include the Berkshire Athenaeum Central Library and the Pittsfield YMCA. Visitors can round out Free Day with Brushy One String, who performs at 8 p.m. in Club B-10. With only a D string on his classical guitar and a powerful voice, Brushy One String exudes the energy and soul of an eight-piece Jamaican dance-hall band. Admission to Brushy One String in concert is $20 reserved, $12 in advance, $16 day of, and $10 for students. The performance is sponsored by the Hans Kate Morris Fund for New Music. Free Day was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Berkshire Gas. MASS MoCA is located in North Adams, Mass.
