Bennington Arts Weekend to Feature Alex Torres & Orchestra
Bennington Arts Weekend is an annual celebration of the arts taking place on the first weekend in August. Anchor events for this weekend include the Southern Vermont Craft Fair from August 2 to 4, and the Southern Vermont Homebrew Festival on August 3. On the evening of Saturday, August 3, the Better Bennington Corporation and the Bennington Area Arts Council (BAAC) will present a free concert at 7 p.m. in the downtown Masonic Hall at 504 Main Street by Alex Torres and His Latin Orchestra, a 12-piece award-winning ensemble which plays an original blend of Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue, Cha-cha, Bomba, Plena and Latin Jazz.
Thanks to underwriting support from the Town of Bennington, as well as the support of our generous business sponsors- Bennington Potters, John Cohen Law Offices and MSK Engineering and Design- the BAAC is pleased to announce that the concert will be free and open to the public. Alix Jones, BAAC president explains: “Having accessible art and entertainment directly in our town center is a key part of the Bennington Cultural Plan. Our job is to bring this plan to fruition, bring the party to the people who live here, and finally, to bring new people to the town. This is a great start.” For more information about the BAAC, visit benningtonartsartscouncil.org.
