Bennington Poverty Walk
Many people around the world walk long distances barefoot or in flip-flops to get water, tend their fields, go to school or flee violence. On Sunday, October 19, beginning at 1 p.m. local folks will walk in solidarity with them, to raise awareness about poverty and to fight hunger. Bennington is one of the ‘Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty’ (CROP). Walkers will follow a route passing organizations that fight poverty in the Bennington and Arlington and nearby areas: the Free Clinic, the Kitchen Cupboard, Harvest Christian Ministries, His Pantry and others. Walkers can get sponsors whose donations fight hunger and poverty, or they can just walk. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised come back to our community to relieve poverty; the rest goes to poverty relief programs abroad. The walk will start from Second Congregational Church on Hillside Street in Bennington, Vt. Call 802-442-2559 weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for more information.
