Bennington Quiltfest Thanks
Like all good quilters, we are tying up lose ends. Once again, the Quiet Valley Quilt Guild of Bennington, Vt. has put together an outstanding show, The Bennington Quiltfest. The magnificent quilts told us the stories with top-quality workmanship and in so many wonderful fabrics and colors that you kept going back up the aisles to make sure you hadn’t missed a thing. The People’s Choice awards were presented to Barbara Hyland, first place for ‘Berkshire Birds;’ Lorraine Daniels won second place for ‘Streets of Boston;’ and the third place prize went to Jim Brown for New York Beauty Made in Vermont. In the Viewer’s Choice catagory, the first place was given to Sharon Messersmith for ‘Over the River and Through the Woods.’ Second place was awarded to Jo Timko for ‘Felicity, aka Spargo-esque’ and third place was taken by Ginny Hanby for ‘Amish Jewels Reversible Quilt.’ Each year a quilt is produced by many members of the QVQ Guild to be raffled at the show. This year’s raffle quilt, ‘Quiet Valley Spirit’ was won by Pat Turcotte of Troy, N.Y. Both Pat and her husband were delighted to bring this gem home. Michele Scott was this years’ featured quilter and lecturer. She was most entertaining and helpful to us with so many words of encouragement. She made us understand that getting that imperfect quilt completed was much better than having a project not yet fininshed. We got the message and now feel ready to try even more techniques. Special thanks go to Jim and Norm this year, for all the continued help and support that they have given to us over the years past. They shall be dearly missed and we wish them well. The QVQ Guild looks forward to seeing all of you again in September 2015. Thanks from us, and ‘piece’ to all.
