‘Cabaret’ to Open at Bennington’s Oldcastle Theatre
Opening Friday, July 10, Oldcastle will be presenting what is known as the 1998 version, of ‘Cabaret,’ with songs from the film, songs cut from the original play and new songs written for the acclaimed London revival. “It is rare,” according to Eric Peterson, Oldcastle’s producing artistic director, that a musical is reworked so extensively after being a smash on Broadway. Kander and Ebb tended to continue working on their shows, long after most artists would consider the piece finished. Audiences are lucky they do, because ‘Cabaret’ has only gotten better.” The cast will be led by the associate artistic director Richard Howe, who will play the Emcee. Christine Decker plays Fraulein Schneider; Peter Langstaff plays Ernst; Amanda Garcia plays Fraulein Kost; and Tom Ferguson plays Max. A host of newcomers include Wynn Harmon as Herr Schultz, Jenny Angell as Sally Bowles, Steve Parmenter as Cliff. Rounding out the cast are Nicolas Baumgartner, Ally Barrale, Tyler Greggory, Jennica Joseph, Natalie Stringer, who each perform in several roles. Performances, through Sunday, August 2, are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday and 2 p.m. Thursday and Sunday with a special matinee on Saturday, July 11.
