Choral Society Has New Director
After a lengthy search to replace retiring director Edwin Lawrence, the Bennington County Choral Society has named its new director, Cailin Marcel Manson, of Putney, Vt. A native of Philadelphia, Penn., he worked to increase community involvement in the art of music by creating performance and training opportunities for singers and musicians of mixed experience. He is founding director and conductor of the Germantown Concert Chorus, as well as the Germantown Institute for the Vocal Arts, and has worked with ensembles both nationally and internationally. He presently is director of music at the Putney School. About his career, Manson says “I have experienced no greater joy in my career than seeing, first-hand, the transformative effects that excellent art and music have on any given community, particularly when nurtured and produced by neighbors and colleagues. Programs that excite and challenge both ensemble and audience coupled with ample opportunities to interface with the performers, are essential.” The Bennington County Choral Society begin rehearsals this week for its December concert, ‘The Majesty of Music.’ Choral pieces by Handel, Vaughn Williams and Rutter will be featured. Singers from age 15 and up are invited to join. There are no auditions, but singers must be able to match a pitch. There is a $35 fee for membership or a $60 fee for singing both concerts. Rehearsals are Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Second Congregational Church in Bennington, Vt. Call Linda Putney at 802-442-8829.
