Dorset Playhouse: ‘She Loves Me’
The musical ‘She Loves Me,’ is on stage at the Dorset Playhouse, 104 Cheney Road in Dorset, Vt., Thursday through Saturday, 7:30 p.m., May 22, 23 and 24, with a matinee on Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m.
Based on the 1936 play ‘Parfumerie,’ it has the humble distinction of living in the shadow of the more famous movies and Broadway musical that it inspired: the 1940 romantic comedy ‘The Shop Around the Corner,’ the 1949 film, ‘In the Good Old Summertime’ and the 1998 movie ‘You’ve Got Mail.’. ‘She Loves Me’ revolves around shop employees Georg Nowak and Amalia Balash who, despite being consistently at odds with each other at work, are unaware that each is the other’s secret pen pal met through lonely-hearts ads. Local favorites Vanessa Beattie, Richard Grip and Shannon Thompson along with newcomer to the Dorset Stage, Mike McCord and the rest of the cast of almost 20 have been working since January to bring you an evening of music, comedy and great entertainment. Directed by Jeff Linebeck with music direction by Richard Cherry, the show boasts smart and lively banter and a score of cleverly worded and memorable songs.
