Artist Renée Bouchard has been selected as a winner of Down East Magazine’s Maine College of Art (MECA) Emerging Artist Contest, along with Angela Adams, Eric Hopkins, Alex Katz, Barbara Ernst Prey and William Wegman, whose winning art will be featured on interior commemorative covers in the magazine’s 60th anniversary issue in August.

Bouchard named MECA’s Scholarship Fund as the beneficiary of monies raised by Down East Magazine at the ‘Art of Giving Gala’ on Thursday, August 14, in Portland, Me. Each admission ticket provides the chance to win one of the six original or limited-edition pieces of art. Proceeds will go to the charity or non-profit organization selected by each artist. Visit downeast.com/artofgiving for information on the event.

“I was excited to learn that I would be able to have one of my paintings as a cover of Down East Magazine,” said Bouchard.

“The MECA Scholarship Fund is important to me, and I’m thrilled to be able to support them in this way,” added Bouchard.  “While I am inspired by work created beyond the boundaries of the traditional art world, I deeply value my education from MECA.
