First Friday with the FBoMs
FBoM has a new meaning. The irreverent acronym is pronounced ‘F-Bomb’ – like that word we’re not supposed to say – but it stands for Female Business Owners of Manchester. Founded in September, this high-energy group of entrepreneurs meets regularly to brainstorm ideas for boosting the local economy. Their first collective project is First Friday on November 7, when participating stores will stay open until 8 p.m. and restaurants until 10 p.m. The FBoM businesses supporting this inaugural evening event are JOY: all things underthings, the Farm Store, Zippy Chicks, Silverado, Vermont Kitchen Supply, The Perfect Wife, Brasserie L’Oustau and The Gold Trout.
The goal of First Friday is to create a sense of buzz around local business while celebrating community. In addition to hosting the monthly events, the FBoMs intend on collectively supporting a charity each month. For November, the eight businesses have pledged to provide 600 Thanksgiving holiday meals to local residents through the Vermont Foodbank.
“Amy Chamberlain and I would talk regularly to share business insights, and as we looked around town, we saw a lot of other businesses that were owned by women,” says FBoM member, Joy Slusarek of JOY. “We realized that there was a lot of knowledge, power and opportunity out there if we could all get together and share. First Friday events are just the first of what we hope are many fun, collaborative efforts to come.” For more information, contact Hadley Stock at the Farm Store at 802-342-7454.
