Free Outdoor Performances of ‘Romeo and Juliet’
Hubbard Hall, a creative arts center in Cambridge, N.Y., brings its touring production of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ to the Southern Vermont Arts Center on Wednesday, July 23, at 7 p.m. Admission is free; donations are appreciated. This fun, fast-paced production – with actual teenagers playing the “star-cross’d lovers” – will be staged outdoors with minimal props and costumes. Young talent and seasoned professionals will mix Shakespeare’s world with modern times to explore how age, authority, religion and family continue to shape reality, and what happens when generations collide, or at least fail to communicate. Come early and picnic before the performance (no alcohol, please). The show will be staged in SVAC’s Arkell Pavilion in case of inclement weather. For more information on the Southern Vermont Arts Center, visit svac.org or call 802-362-1405. SVAC is located at 930 SVAC Drive, off West Road, in Manchester.
Other performances of Hubbard Halls’ 20th Shakespeare Tour are Thursday, July 24, Town Green, Manchester, and Friday, July 25, Salem Arts Works, Salem, N.Y. All performances begin at 7 p.m. Unless the forecast calls for definite hard rain or storms (in which case we’ll post a cancellation notice on Facebook and voicemail), we will not cancel until 6:55 p.m. Hubbard Hall Center for the Arts is located at 25 East Main Street in Cambridge, N.Y. For details, visit hubbardhall.org or call 518-677-2495.
