Green Mountain Club Hikes
Join the Manchester Section of the Green Mountain Club on Sunday, May 19. To bike, meet at the Depot Building at the northern end of the West River Trail for a ten-mile round trip ride on the West River Trail. The route is for hybrid or mountain bike tires. Hikers will meet on the same day at the parking area for the Stratton Mountain Trail on the Arlington-Wardsboro Road (Kelley Stand Road) in Stratton at 10 a.m. for an easy hike of 3.6 miles round trip. [email protected] This hike follows Forest Road 383 and goes along the Deerfield River, ending at Somerset Reservoir.
Also on May 19, the Killington Section of the Green Mountain Club will meet at 10:15 a.m. in Rutland, or 11 a.m. in Poultney to travel to Haystack Mountain in Pawlet, where hikers will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Mettawee River Valley and the Taconic Range once they reach the summit. This moderate three-mile excursion has some steep pitches and 1000 feet in elevation gain. No dogs are allowed, as it is located on Nature Conservancy lands.
