Habitat Searches for Homebuyer for Manchester Home
Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity is searching for families who want to explore its path of homeownership. Construction on our next Manchester home will begin in early spring of 2015. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Habitat for information and to begin the application process as soon as possible. We plan to select a homebuyer in November. At the final stage of the selection process, equally qualified candidates will be given preference based on the date their completed application was received.
To qualify for consideration for a Habitat home, several specific requirements must be met. A definite need for better housing is necessary. Habitat considers the safety, size, condition and cost of an applicant’s living situation in determining need. As an indication of readiness for the long-term financial commitment of owning a home, families must have an adequate, stable income and a record of managing money responsibly. Annual family income cannot exceed amounts identified as low-income for Bennington County. Habitat homebuyers are required to contribute many volunteer hours to help build their homes. They buy their home from Habitat through a long-term mortgage. These homes are affordable because they are built almost entirely by volunteer labor and are sold at cost. Applicants must have lived or worked in Bennington County for the last year.
Families who are interested in determining if a Habitat home might be a realistic option for them should contact Habitat immediately by calling 802-367-1000 for more information.
