‘Here and Now’ at Stone Valley Arts in Poultney
Stone Valley Arts at Fox Hill will present ‘Near to Here,’ a photo exhibit featuring the works of Denise Letendre and Chuck Helfer, as its first art show for the 2019 season. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 26; the show will be on view through May 26. Helfer has been working with the Slate Valley Museum to photograph and document the local slate industry and has produced images for The Nature Conservancy, the Green Mountain Club, Vermont State Historical Parks, Vermont Fish and Wildlife, the National Park Service and Slate Valley Trails. He enjoys producing unique images of everyday places and photographing spring wildflowers.
Letendre has a background in painting, but now works primarily with a camera to create images inspired by the landscape and architecture of Vermont. “The unique quality of photography that separates it from other artistic mediums is the ability to capture time and light,” she says. “I feel as though I’ve discovered something … concealed in plain sight.
