ICM Jewish Film Series Continues
Israel Congregation of Manchester (ICM) will present the uplifting documentary, ‘Big Sonia,’ on Monday, July 15, at 7 p.m. at the Manchester Community Library. At 4’11”, Sonia is tiny. However, this 91-year-old is big in spirit. Known for wearing flamboyant leopard prints and high-heeled shoes, Sonia Warshawski has been a motivational public speaker at school, churches, and prisons where her stories of surviving the Holocaust have inspired countless others who felt that their own traumas would leave them broken forever. Facing a forced retirement, Sonia admits that she stays busy to keep the dark parts away. ‘Big Sonia’ asks the ultimate question: will our traumas define us or will our pasts make us stronger? The film is the first of four Jewish-themed films to be presented this summer by ICM. Future screenings in the series include ‘Itzhak’ on Monday, July 22; ‘Nicky’s Family’ on Monday, July 29; and ‘Shoelaces’ on Monday, August 5. The Jewish Film Series is free and open to the public. To help underwrite its costs, free-will donations are appreciated. For more information, call Israel Congregation of Manchester at 802-362-4578.
