Marc Peloquin to Perform Free Concert of Works by Lionel Nowak
A CD of 15 piano works of the late composer, pianist and long-time Bennington College faculty member Lionel Nowak will be released next year. In addition to ten archival recordings, the new CD will include five previously unrecorded compositions, played by the acclaimed pianist, Marc Peloquin, who will perform these works at the Bennington Museum on Sunday, November 2, at 4 p.m. There will be a short intermission and remarks by the performer and by Nowak’s daughter, Alison, producer of the CD. The concert, sponsored by the family of Lionel Nowak, is free and open to the public.
To prepare for a recording, Peloquin likes to perform the works several times in a public forum; the Bennington Museum is the first scheduled. A second concert will take place at the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York City on December 6, co-sponsored by the American Composers Alliance, which is publishing a collection of musical scores to accompany the CD.
In addition a the five Nowak pieces, Peloquin will play short works by Allen Shawn, a current Bennington College faculty member who was a close colleague of Nowak’s, and by Otto Luening, who taught at Bennington College from 1934 to 1944 and first met Nowak at the Bennington summer dance workshop in the 40s. Bennington Museum is located at 75 Main Street, Bennington, Vt. Call 802-447-1571 or visit benningtonmuseum.org to learn more.
