Marion Grant at Gallery 25
An exhibition of new still life paintings and drawings by Marion Grant will be on view at Gallery 25, September 6 to 30. The works combine Grant’s keen observation of everyday objects with bold impasto brushwork, and includes preparatory drawings and oil paintings. One series of pictures depicts seasonal fruits painted in thick layers of brilliant complimentary hues, while another explores the interplay of bottles and vases with an emphasis on texture, shadow, and the relationship of foreground and background. Grant says, “My recent still life paintings are an extension of previous work, but with a new emphasis on the painterly surface of the canvas.” The artist lives in Richmond and has a studio in the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts in downtown Pittsfield.
The public is invited to attend an opening reception on Friday, September 6, 5 to 8, during First Friday Arts Walk. Gallery 25, at 25 Union Street, Pittsfield, Mass., is open Thursday through Saturday, 12 to 5.
