Martha Canfield Library to Host ‘Moonshine in the Hills’
The Martha Canfield Library in Arlington will host VTrans archaeologist, Brennan Gauthier, for a presentation on the colorful history of Vermont moonshiners at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 2. The recent boom in Vermont cider production is not something new to the residents of this state. Gauthier will talk about his research on a group of 1880s cider moonshiners in Orange County and will delve into the history, material culture and sites of hard cider production in the state, highlighting a group of particularly notorious moonshiners from the towns of Strafford, Thetford and Vershire.
