MSL to Host Van Gogh Lecture

The Mark Skinner Library: Manchester’s Public Library is pleased to announce that Carol Berry will share her interest and expertise in all things Van Gogh at the library on Wedensday, September 17, at 7 p.m. ‘The Books Vincent Read,’ will examine the written influences on Van Gogh’s life and work. This illustrated lecture will focus on the early influences on Vincent’s life and will feature an updated Power Point presentation.

Berry, an artist and a retired art educator serves on the Board of the MSL. She has spent more than twenty years studying Van Gogh’s paintings and getting to know him through his letters and papers and the writings of his peers. In 1979 she was fortunate to study under the late Roman Catholic priest and author, University Professor Henri J. M. Nouwen. She acknowledges his importance in providing her with a basis for many of her insights into the life and work of Van Gogh. Berry credits her travels through Europe, where the artist lived and worked, for a deep appreciation of his life. She has had two of her essays published in anthologies and is currently working on two books about Van Gogh. The program is free and open to the public. The library is located at 48 West Road in Manchester Village, Vt. For details, call 802-362-2607.
