Approximately 50 people attended National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Berkshire County’s 30th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, July 23, at the Berkshire Museum. Awards presented include Member of the Year to Marilyn Moran and Kathy Quinn; the Silver Ribbon to Brian Morrison and Peggy Morse; and Citizen of the Year to North Adams Mayor Richard Alcombright, who said, “I am honored to be recognized, knowing that there are so many others who do so much more. I feel that I am in a position to bring more awareness locally and I assure you that I will continue to speak with respect to insurance as well as the stigma that sometimes creates isolation for them and their families.” In addition, a member shared her family’s journey with mental illness and the support offered by NAMI Berkshire County, which provides information, referral, classes, workshops, support groups and advocacy to family members and caregivers of people living with mental illness.
