No-Strings Marionettes to Present ‘The Snow Maiden’
The Rupert Kittay Public Library in Rupert will host the acclaimed No Strings Marionette Company, performing ‘The Snowmaiden’ at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 2, at the Rupert Firehouse. The production features 19 exquisitely hand-crafted marionettes in one of Russia’s most beloved folk tales.
As Father Frost spreads winter throughout the land, he discovers a little maiden sculpted entirely of snow.
Based in Randolph, Vermont, No Strings Marionette Company are puppeteers Dan Baginski and Barbara Paulson, who have has toured nationally for years. Their traveling stage transforms any space into an intimate theater, where the seamless blend of movement, music and masterful manipulation captivates young and old alike. These Vermont artisans lovingly hand craft each marionette, the props and the scenery for their shows, whether an original tale or an adaptation of a classic. Their shows begin with an interactive song featuring audience members and finish with demonstrations sparked by questions from the audience. During the performance, onlookers can watch how the puppets are brought to life, since Baginski and Paulson do not hide themselves from the audience.
This kind and gentle hour-long performance is free and appropriate for audiences of all ages. The Rupert Firehouse is located in the center of Rupert on Route 153. For more information, visit rupertkittaylibrary.org or call 802-394-2444.
