Pawlet Public Library to Host Community Potluck and Concert by Washington County Band
Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate the end of summer on Saturday, August 24, when the Pawlet Public Library brings back the Washington County Band for a concert on the library lawn. Before the concert, the public is invited to a community potluck dinner. Bring a dish to share and your own place settings. The library will provide tables and chairs. (No alcohol, please.) The potluck dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. and the band plays from 6:30 to 8. Admission is free.
The Washington County Band includes 40-some volunteer members from Washington County and other counties in New York as well as from Vermont. They perform a well-balanced repertoire of marches, show tunes, ballads, television/movie themes and other standards under the direction of Paul Kafer, who has been guest conductor in Vermont for the District II Wind Ensemble, Green Mountain Festival and Lakes Region Honors Festival. He completed his doctorate work in music education at Boston University and received his Master of Music in Applied Bassoon from New England Conservatory of Music.
You are encouraged to come rain or shine; if it rains, the potluck dinner will be held inside the Library at 141 School Street, and the concert will be heldin the Town Hall Auditorium just across the street. The concert is co-sponsored by several Pawlet businesses. Call the Library at 802-325-3123 for details.
