Pawlet/Rupert/Wells Merger Study Committee Community Input
Members of the merger study committee, appointed by the school districts, have been charged with determining whether or not it is advisable for the Pawlet, Rupert, Wells and Mettawee school districts to merge into a single district to meet the requirements of Act 46. If they merge, the new district would have one school board, one budget and one tax rate. The study committee is holding a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, at the Mettawee Community School, to receive community input on whether the proposed district should offer school choice or designation of three schools (Granville, Salem and Poultney). Childcare will be provided from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The committee plans on voting on the choice versus designation issue after hearing from the public. The committee’s proposal will need to be approved by the State Board of Education and the voters, unless the committee determines that merger is not advisable.
