Refuse to Use Kick-off Event to be Held at Riley Rink

The Refuse to Use Program, developed by Stratton Mountain Resort and The Collaborative, supports and assists schools in their individual prevention plans. Generous commitments from Stratton Mountain Resort, Magic Mountain Ski Area, Riley Rink, Viking Nordic Center and the Dorset Theater Festival, combined with oversight from The Collaborative, provides schools a real opportunity to offer students a tangible incentive to remain substance-free. Students in grades seven to 12 who sign up for the Refuse To Use program begin by taking a pledge to remain free from drugs, alcohol and tobacco. They then attend three out-of-school time prevention education events in the fall, and in return receive a season pass to Stratton Mountain Resort, Riley Rink or Viking Nordic Center. Two additional events are scheduled in the early part of the New Year following winter recess. Participating students must remain substance-free, and must attend all five events to maintain their passes. These substance abuse prevention events are held at the participating schools and incorporated into the overall prevention plan designed by the school prevention staff. Riley Rink will host a special event from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, to celebrate this year’s Refuse to Use participants; a parent, guardian or caring adult must accompany each student. For more information on the event, visit thecollaborative.us or call Taylor at 802-824-4200.

The Collaborative promotes the development of a healthy, involved community supporting substance-free youth in a caring environment.
