Renowned Saxophonist Benny Golson to Perform
Jazz legend Benny Golson will be performing with the Williams Jazz Ensemble directed by Kris Allen on Friday, May 2, at 8 p.m. in Chapin Hall at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
Golson joins the Ensemble in a program of his own classic compositions, newly arranged by the composer himself for an 18-piece big band.
Golson’s illustrious 60-year career as composer, arranger, lyricist and producer includes performances on tenor saxophonist in the world-famous big bands of Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Earl Bostic and Art Blakey.
Golson has recorded over 30 albums under his own name and innumerable ones with other major artists. A prodigious composer, Golson has written well over 300 works. This humble musical giant continues to impress critics, fans and fellow musicians with his contributions to the world of jazz.
