Rockin’ at The Hyde
This spring The Hyde Collection issued a challenge to the regional community, requesting they loan their favorite album covers for consideration in the community exhibition, ‘Can You Dig It?’ Over 800 album covers were dropped off at The Hyde. “We are thrilled with the response we’ve received from the community,” said The Hyde’s director, Erin Coe. “Music, much like visual art, is a means of expression and ‘Can You Dig It?’ is a celebration of the artistic convergence of music and art. We’re very thankful to the music lovers in our community for loaning us their album covers.”
The resulting show coincides with summer exhibition, ‘The Late Drawings of Andy Warhol: 1973-1987.’ Curatorial and education staff selected 84 covers dating from 1965 to 1989 for the exhibition. Five of them were created by Andy Warhol. Lenders of the selected album covers are listed on the Rotunda Gallery wall. If visitors want to rock out to some of the iconic songs, MP3 players are available at the admission desk.
