Three Pears Gallery on the village green in Dorset celebrates this long-awaited high season with ‘A Gracious Summer,’ featuring oil paintings by Jim Rodgers, whose landscapes and stilllifes embody the vibrant spirit of summer. While most artists rhapsodize about the light, Rodgers is inspired by energy. His still lifes are anything but still, and his layered technique and glazes imbue the canvas with a fresh, wet look.
“I had a classical training, but I consider my work to be a sort of combination of jazz, rock and fusion,” he says. “There’s energy in everything I see!” His subjects are traditional, and he has painted everything from the Irish countryside to Italian cityscapes, but he brings it home to our corner of Vermont – all the landscapes in this show are of Danby, Rupert, Pawlet and Dorset in the summertime. A reception with the artisit will be held on Saturday, July 11, from 1 to 4 p.m. The show runs until Monday, August 17. For more information, call 802-770-8820.
