Sew-a-thon Aids Women and Girls
Days for Girls International, Team Bennington, is hosting a sewing event to make washable feminine hygiene kits which will be distributed to women worldwide who do not have access to these supplies. This service and sewing event will be held at the Scarlett Creation, 493 Main Street, Bennington, Vt. on Saturday, October 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please drop by anytime.
This is an opportunity for sewers and non-sewers to make an impact on the lives of sturggling women worldwide. Days For Girls International has reached women in 60 countries on six continents and has distributed 100,000 washable feminine hygiene kits, empowering girls and women to go to school and/or provide for their families without having to stay home. Education regarding this normal body function and skills to make their own kits are provided to these girls.
We will provide sewing instruction, sewing machines, fabric and supplies to make kits during this event. Participants may also bring their own sewing machines and supplies. Donations of cotton fabric for shields and bags, flannel for liners, panties (girls 12, 14 and 16), washcloths, safety pins, travel-sized soap and Ziploc brand gallon-sized freezer bags are all welcome. Days for Girls International is a 501C3 organization; all tax-deductible financial contributions will be accepted and appreciated.
