Shakespeare on Main Street’s ‘A Christmas Carol’
Begin your holiday season with Shakespeare on Main Street as they present a timeless holiday classic in intimate ‘Readers Theatre’ style in Bennington, Rutland and Dorset. Charles Dickens’ ’A Christmas Carol’ has become known as a holiday masterwork, a story of compassion, forgiveness and redemption. Five actors directed by Gary Meitrott bring all of the characters to life using Dickens’ original words with costumes, movement by the actors and elegant Victorian furniture. Meitrott, a lover of classic literature and founder of SoMS, says, “Even though we are all connected electronically, we are also isolated as individuals. ‘A Christmas Carol’ rings truer than ever in its lesson to give and to love with every moment we have.” The cast features Martin Bones, Jonathan White, Meg Wood, Lawrence Zupan and Zachary Zupan. Performances are Saturday, December 5, at 7:30 p.m.at Oldcastle Theatre, 331 Main Street, Bennington; Saturday, December 12, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 13, at 2 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre, 30 Center Street, Rutland; and Saturday, December 19, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 20, at 2 p.m. at the Dorset Playhouse, 104 Cheney Road, Dorset.
