SVAC Spring Exhibits Open
For the past 60 years, the elegant Yester House Galleries at the Southern Vermont Arts Center have been know for an eclectic array of group exhibitions and solo shows by the region’s finest artists. Subject matter is as diverse as the artists who exhibit, although there is an underlying theme of connection to the landscape and culture of Vermont. This connection is evident in the newest group exhibition titled ‘Mud Season.’ The show is replete with images of life between seasons, colored by a mélange of light, shadow, earth, sky and water. Complementing the group show are two exceptional solo exhibitions by Gerard Natale and Barbara Harshman.
Natale’s romantic landscapes explore the beauty of nature through accurate brushwork and layered hues in a contrast between realism of form and fancifully saturated color.
Harshman’s larger than life paintings embrace the playful nature of everyday objects. Her paintings have a pop art feel and are iconic representations of day-to-day material goods with minimal composition, bold contours and bright colors.
Each of these shows will be on display from March 1 to 31. An opening reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, with complimentary wine and light hors d’oeuvres. The galleries are always free to the public. Visit svac.org for further details.
