SVAC to Host ‘Rags to Runway’ Fundraising Event & Fashion Show
The Southern Vermont Arts Center (SVAC) presents its first major exhibition of the season, ‘Unusual Threads: Stitching Together the Future of Fashion,’ opening Thursday, May 11, and on view through June 23.
This unique show will step out with a fashion show-themed fundraising gala titled ‘Rags To Runway’ on Friday, May 10. It will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. in the elegant space of the Wilson Museum, located across from Yesterhouse Galleries on the SVAC campus
The exhibition brings together art and fashion with an environmental twist. Curated by SVAC gallery director Anna-Maria Hand, ‘Unusual Threads’ provides a future-based approach to the wearable art and fashion world, as many designers are using new and inventive approaches to solve the clothing waste issue.
The fundraising gala will include custom cocktails and delicious food from SVAC’s new exclusive caterer, Church Street Hospitality, known for the Barrows House Inn, Dorset Inn and Restaurant and others. Activities include a red carpet and a photo booth, a fashion show featuring pieces created by ‘Unusual Threads’ designers, a panel discussion focused on sustainability in contemporary fashion, and an exciting set of raffle prizes. Tickets to the gala, $150 each, are available at svac.org or by calling 802-362-1405. Proceeds will benefit the Southern Vermont Arts Center, located off West Road in Manchester.
