Talk to Explore Development & Progress in VT
Bennington Free Library, 101 Silver Street, will host ‘Community Conversations: 20th Century Development and Progress,’ from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28. Learn how the state has handled questions of development and progress in the past, and the lessons we can use in the future.
The program will open with Northern Vermont University professor Paul Searls, who discuss his newly-published book, ‘Re-peopling Vermont: The Paradox of Development in the Twentieth Century,’ highlighting stories from different communities. Copies of the book are available to borrow.
Following the presentation, attendees will be invited to share their own perspectives. What should be preserved, and when is it important to move forward? How can we balance different interests and create a Vermont that works for everyone? This program is free and open to everyone and is a joint project of the Vermont Historical Society and the Vermont Department of Libraries.
