‘The Habit of Art’ to Screen at BBA
Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning presents ‘The Habit of Art,’ from the National Theatre in London, on Saturday, January 18. This production, shown in a hi-definition encore broadcast, will take place at the Riley Center for the Arts at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, Vt. at 4 p.m.
Benjamin Britten, sailing uncomfortably close to the wind with his new opera, ’Death in Venice,’ seeks advice from his former collaborator and friend, W H Auden. During this imagined meeting, their first for 25 years, they are observed and interrupted by, amongst others, their future biographer and a young man from the local bus station. Starring Richard Griffiths, Alex Jennings and Frances de la Tour, this play is as much about the theatre as it is about poetry or music. It looks at the unsettling desires of two difficult men, and at the ethics of biography. It reflects on growing old, on creativity, inspiration, and persistence. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for seniors, $9 for students and can be purchased online at bbatickets.com. For more information, call Green Mountain Academy’s office at 802-867-0111.
