Vermont Arts Exchange to Host Defibulators at Lake Paran
The Vermont Arts Exchange (VAE) welcomes the Defibulators to perform at the Lake Paran Pavilion in North Bennington, Vt. on Friday, August 8, starting at 8 p.m. The pavilion will open at 6 p.m. for ticket sales. The music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door, $10 for students, children under 10 free. The Defibulators unique brand of country has made them pioneers in the Brooklyn, N.Y., country music scene. “It’s fun to play for people who don’t think they like country music,” says singer Erin Bru.
This concert is part of a month-long celebration of VAE turning 20 years old. The Sage Street Mill has been home to VAE since 1993, but it wasn’t until August of 1994 that VAE received its 501(c3) status and officially became a non-profit arts and community development organization. That is when the transformation of the Sage Street Mill, a run-down old
factory, was turned into a creative oasis and an energetic force that has contributed to the commercial, social and cultural life of the village of North Bennington. VAE and its partners continue to push forth with its mission of bringing the arts to people of all ages, abilities and income. Through outreach and private contract work, VAE staff and artists work in the studios and off-site with mainstream youth as well as youth-at-risk, veterans, developmentally delayed adults and more.
This summer has been busy for VAE at the Sage Street Mill. With 18 summer camps, three rotating galleries, four concerts and continued programming with the Village School of
North Bennington, Bennington School, UCS and Head Start Programs.
The staff at VAE are excited to celebrate their accomplishments with a night by the beautiful Lake Paran with great dancing music, bonfire and good friends.
Come early to enjoy a picnic. Libations will be served by JC’s Tavern, and the Lake Paran Snack Bar and Grill will be open. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit vtartxchange.org or call 802-442-5549.
