Vocal Students Benefit from Master Class
Six students of voice teacher Lise Messier recently participated in a vocal master class at her studio in Weston, Vt. Kim Moyer, Ryan Mangan, Scott Forrest, Robyn Shapiro, Jenna D’Olivo and Anjelica Carroll were offered valuable advice in singing technique by Angela Hines-Gooch, head of the voice and opera department at the Walnut Hill School in Massachusetts. Each student performed one piece from the opera or musical theatre repertoire and was then critiqued by Hines-Gooch, who has been on the staff of Opera Theatre of Weston since 2005 as musical director, conductor and pianist.
She will again join the OTW creative team in January 2015 for the East Coast premiere of ‘The Secret Garden’ by composer Nolan Gasser. The new opera, based on the beloved children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, made its debut at the San Francisco Opera in 2013. OTW will offer six daytime school shows as well as three full-length public matinees at the Paramount Theatre in Rutland, Vt. and at the Weston Playhouse.
The multi-talented Hines-Gooch is a professional pianist, music director and educator, as well as an operatic soprano. In addition to her work with Opera Boston and other East Coast companies, she has appeared as a featured performer at international venues.
