VRP Seeks Reading Tutors

Vermont Reading Partners (VRP) is seeking tutors from  Bennington County and surrounding towns to attend the annual Tutor Training Workshop at the Martha Canfield Library in Arlington, Vt. Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 30, and October 2, 7 and 9, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The goal is to train volunteers to work in VRP’s literacy programs. Candidates are expected to attend each workshop. In the Adult Program, a tutor is matched with a student to assist in achieving a personal, educational, work-related or community-related goals. Tutors may also work with students in the ESL program whose first language is not English. Meetings take place at approved locations at the convenience of the tutor and the student. VRP’s School Program takes place in area schools where tutors are matched with students selected by the school for extra help in reading and writing. They meet one day a week after school for about an hour. Volunteers need not have previous teaching experience, only a desire to help others.
