Walk ‘n’ Wag Set for Sunday
Celebrate dogs in Dorset on Sunday, October 5, rain or shine, when Second Chance Animal Center and the Dorset Playhouse will welcome dog-lovers to the annual Walk ‘n’ Wag, a great chance to strut your mutt and help needy animals at the same time. We began holding the walk in Dorset 13 years ago in memory of Jill Charles, co-founder of the Dorset Theatre Festival and a true animal lover. Funds raised are earmarked for SCAC’s in-house dog training efforts to acclimate homeless dogs more quickly and easily into their new homes. Registration begins at 12 noon at the Dorset Playhouse on Cheney Road, followed by a Blessing of the Animals given by Father Scott Neal of Saint James Episcopal Church in Arlington, Vt. After an easy stroll around the Dorset Green, it’s back to the playhouse for awards, refreshments and a chance to mingle. Following the official walk will be a parade of rescue dogs, including SCAC alums and the Halloween canine costume parade. All participating dogs will receive a bandanna and there will be prizes for the top adult and child pledge-earners. The registration fee for the walk is $25 per dog (a tax deductible donation to SCAC). You can increase your fundraising efforts by getting pledges for taking part in the walk. Pledge sheets can be picked up at the shelter or downloaded online at 2ndchanceanimalcenter.org.
