Western Swing Dance Party
The Hunter Center becomes a boot-stomping ranch dance on Saturday, February 1, at 8 p.m., when New York’s The Brain Cloud brings its brand of gypsy jazz dipped in big band swing. The group, composed of Dennis Lichtman on electric mandolin, fiddle and clarinet, vocalist Tamar Korn, Raphael McGregor on lap steel guitar, guitarist Skip Krevens, Andrew Hall on upright bass, and drummer Kevin Dorn, plays where jazz meets country at the high-stepping intersection of New Orleans and Nashville. “Western swing is American music,” says Lichtman. “A meeting point for jazz (from ragtime through swing), bluegrass, Appalachian old-time fiddling, Tin Pan Alley, country, Mississippi Delta blues, western cowboy songs.” Dance instruction will be provided by Jacob’s Pillow Dance
A full bar, dinner and snacks from Lickety Split, are available before and during the show. Tickets are available through the MASS MoCA box office, located on Marshall Street in North Adams, Mass., at 413-662-2111, or online at massmoca.org.
