Workshop on Making Rain Barrels

As part of its campaign to encourage Rutland Town residents to get involved in reducing stormwater pollution, the Town of Rutland is sponsoring a rain barrel-making workshop. The event, ‘How to Reuse Your Rain Water,’ is Thursday, July 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Garden Time, located on Route 7, north of Rutland, Vt. The cost for the workshop is $30 and attendees get to take home the rain barrels they make. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. To register, email [email protected] A rain barrel is one of a number of practical solutions for keeping pollutants out of stormwater, collecting water from roofs and storing it for when it is needed,  to water plants, wash your car or top off a swimming pool. It is relatively simple to construct and can sit conveniently under any residential gutter downspout. The Town of Rutland is one of 13 communities in the state that the Department of Environmental Conservation required to do more to control stormwater runoff to reduce pollution in the watershed.
